I'm not glad I did this, because while I do love stuff like this involving replication, especially on a cellular level, the tutorial it came from was all over the place. Pigeon-holed myself into a space where I've spent hours doing something that I feel I have to continue with because I didn't want those hours wasted for nothing.
Did some messing around in After Effects to get something slightly decent because I don't want to put any more time into this. Not sure if Houdini 17 & 17.5 have that much of a difference but I followed the guide and it just kept breaking at different point to the stage I had to use the hip file to copy and paste because even going in and making sure everything was matching still wasn't enough. While I can't help but feel this would have been so much easier to create in Maya, I imagine it would have involved a lot of deleting history in that case. I never want to see another attr wrangle again... Candle simulation with an eerie blue tone.

Wasn't able to get rid of all the noise/grain, which is unfortunate, but the render took a couple of hours so once I increase my RAM, I'll give it another go through and increase the volume control and padding. Tire asset from Raffi Bedross FX TD. |
