Decided to test out my compositing skills by creating this volcano eruption in Houdini, then compositing and adding more effects in After Effects.
The Houdini part was the easiest to do and I managed to get a fairly decent render out in under two hours. I used an old Houdini 12 tutorial as a guide which is still available on the SideFX website. In After Effects I stretched out the time to make it go slower. I wasn't able to get it to look the way I wanted so decided to do some comping of footage from RocketStock. The volcano background is Mount Agung in Eastern Bali, Indonesia, which hadn't erupted for a while but did a few hours after making this video.
